FNWN-Bird Banding with Mark Conway at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands
Join us on Friday, December 20th from 6-7p.m. as we explore the incredible world of bird banding!
Bird banding is a research method that has allowed researchers around the world to gather crucial data on various animal species. It is through bird banding that Wisdom, a Laysan Albatross, has been found to be the oldest known individual of its species that is still raising chicks at the age of 62 at the U.S. Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge!
Mark Conway from Harlingen has been banding birds for nearly 15 years, and has successfully banded thousands of bird species. He bands birds at Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center, along with other sites. It is with bird banding efforts of licensed professionals such as Mr. Conway that individual birds can be marked in a safe way so that their movements and habits may be monitored, making it possible to gather data essential for protecting its species. Come by and join us to learn all about bird banding from Mr. Conway himself!
FNWN is a FREE, fun, and educational family program held on the third Friday of each month. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so please call ahead to reserve a seat. The Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center is located at 714 S. Raul Longoria (in the Edinburg Municipal Park) in Edinburg, Texas. MMA encourages Christmas shoppers to purchase a toy for a needy child HARLINGEN, Texas – So that all local children have a present to unwrap on
Christmas Day, Marine Military Academy (MMA) is holding a “Toys for Tots” toy drive until Wednesday, Dec. 18. While shopping for loved ones and

To support the MMA “Toys for Tots” drive, drop off a new, unwrapped toy at Coleman Hall on the MMA campus. MMA is located at 320 Iwo Jima Blvd., next to Valley International Airport in Harlingen. For questions, contact SgtMaj Ford Kinsley at (956) 423-6006 or kinsley@MMA-TX.org<mailto:kins
